<idAbs><DIV STYLE="text-align:Left;"><DIV><DIV><P><SPAN>This feature class contains actual and "pseudo" drillholes used to create 3D geologic and geophysical models for the 2013 Portland NEHRP project. Drillhole points were digitized from maps or coordinates in drilling reports for geotechnical or other purposes (e.g. water wells, hydrocarbon exploration, etc). The drillhole feature class participates in two one-to-many relationship classes with tables of downhole geologic interpretations (PDX_NEHRP_interpretations) and shear-wave velocity measurements (PDX_NEHRP_Vs) using the key field "LOG_ID_concatenated".</SPAN></P></DIV></DIV></DIV></idAbs>
<idPurp>The intent of this digital data release is to provide modeling results of 3D subsurface geology in the greater Portland, Oregon metropolitan area in the form of ArcGIS Triangulated Irregular Networks (TINs) and rasters. Also included in this publication are supplemental files of modeling scripts, a spreadsheet of shear-wave analyses, and a database of drillholes, shear-wave velocities, and downhole geologic interpretations.</idPurp>

<statement>All thickness rasters created for Open-File Report O-13-12 are derived from Triangulated Irregular Networks (TINs) representing the tops and bottoms of each modeled geologic unit. The TINs themselves were developed from drillhole points, a table of downhole geologic interpretations, a high-resolution Digital Elevation Model (DEM) itself combined from lidar and sonar bathymetry, and mapped surficial geology from DOGAMI Open-File Report O-12-02 (Lidar-Based Surficial Geologic Map and Database of the Greater Portland Area).
Drillhole points were digitized from geotechnical reports and water well reports. In 2012 and 2013, geotechnical reports were provided in PDF or .tiff format from the City of Portland Bureau of Environmental Services, the City of Portland Bureau of Development Services, the City of Portland Bureau of Transportation, the Oregon Department of Transportation, the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries, the Tualatin Valley Water District, the Port of Portland, the City of Lake Oswego, TriMet, and the United States Geological Survey. A limited number of water well reports were downloaded from the Oregon Water Resources Division website in PDF format.
The high-resolution lidar and sonar DEM was compiled from multiple sources. Lidar data of the ground surface was compiled from DOGAMI and Clark County (Washington). Multibeam bathymetry along the Columbia River and lower Willamette River was collected by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in 2004 and 2008 and provided by the United States Army Corps of Engineers. DOGAMI lidar sources include the following Lidar Data Quadrangles (LDQs): LDQ-2011-45123-F2-Buxton, LDQ-2011-45123-E2-Gales Creek, LDQ-2011-45123-D-Gaston, LDQ-2011 North Coast Range Bundle 2, LDQ-2011-45123-F1-Meacham Corner, LDQ-2009-45123-E1-Forest Grove, LDQ-2009-45123-D1-Laurelwood, LDQ-2009-45123-C1-Dundee, LDQ-2009-45122-F8-Dixie Mountain, LDQ-2009-45122-E8-Hillsboro, LDQ-2009-45122-D8-Scholls, LDQ-2009-45122-C8-Newberg, LDQ-2009-45122-F7-Sauvie Island, LDQ-2009-45122-E7-Linnton, LDQ-2009-45122-D7-Beaverton, LDQ-2009-45122-C7-Sherwood, LDQ-2009-45122-E6-Portland, LDQ-2009-45122-D6-LakeOswego, LDQ-2009-45122-C6-Canby, LDQ-2009-45122-E5-Mount Tabor, LDQ-2009-45122-D5-Gladstone, LDQ-2009-45122-C5-Oregon City, LDQ-2009-45122-E4-Camas, LDQ-2009-45122-D4-Damascus, LDQ-2009-45122-C4-Redland, LDQ-2009-Mt Hood Bundle 1, LDQ-2009-45122-D3-Sandy, and LDQ-2009-45122-C3-Estacada.

<measDesc>Horizontal consistency is non-quantifiable. Because of scope, budget, and time limitations, no effort was made to digitize all extant drillholes in the PDX NEHRP project area. The focus was on geotechnical drillholes greater than a few feet deep. Geotechnical drillholes are easy to locate at relatively higher precisions than other types of drillholes (e.g. water wells) given the average detail contained in a geotechnical report. Geotechnical reports also tend to have superior geologic information and geotechnical data. Drillholes tend to be more common in areas of existing civil or commercial infrastructure as these projects often require geotechnical investigations.</measDesc>
<evalMethDesc>Horizontal consistency is non-quantifiable. Considerable effort was made to digitize geotechnical drillholes within 40 feet of their locations as represented in drillhole reports/maps. In some cases, high precision was possible when coordinates were provided. The "Comments" field may note substantial uncertainties in geographic precision of a given drillhole point (typically water wells, which can range over 700 feet in geographic precision). Digitizing referenced various aerial photos, 1 meter lidar, taxlots, PLSS boundaries, and drillhole reports/map. No effort was made to quantify individual or cumulative error contributions from these sources.</evalMethDesc>

<udom>Specifies the report from which the drillhole point was digitized. The majority can be categorized by the three largest contributors of drillhole reports.
MTL prefixes indicate a drilling report is from the City of Portland Bureau of Development Services and reflects their report-numbering scheme.
GT prefixes indicate a drilling report is from the City of Portland Bureau of Environmental Services and reflects their report-numbering scheme.
A four-letter county abbreviation (e.g. MULT, CLAC, etc) indicate a drilling report is from the Oregon Water Resources Division (OWRD) or the US Geological Survey (which copied and interpreted certain drilling reports from the OWRD).
Other report prefixes are generally from small report sets. </udom>
